Music is the best tonic, playing an instrument is great, playing and singing is greater, playing, singing and putting your own interpretation or even writing your own songs is the greatest feeling.

I designed this website for my own use, so I could play my guitar anywhere without having to learn the words to the songs I sing, in truth I also learned the guitar, so I could accompany myself in private, sadly my voice is very nasally to others and myself when I hear it recorded, but sounds OK to me when I'm playing, perfect then, to feel good when the mood takes me.

I have also learned in the past 20 years, tips and tricks to make learning to play extraordinarily easy for a beginner. I will freely share those tips that could have saved me years of learning. My favoured guitar is an Antonio Carvalho 1C Classical made in Portugal.

If you want to learn to play a guitar or, any stringed instrument, it is essential you also buy a Tuner as your instrument needs to be adjusted. This is because new strings take a little while to bed in so it good practice to make sure your instrument is in tune before you begin each session. I use a "SNARK SUPER TIGHT" because it is the best and it will tune all stringed instruments, it clips onto the headstock and senses the vibrations of the strings, it also has a microphone that can identify the chords you play, thus it can tell you if you are playing the major cords corrrectly.
You also need a Capo. A Capo allows you to use the same chord shapes right along the fret board, just giving a higher pitch as you move down.

Welcome to 01a, where you can find songs from Robbie Burns right up to the current year. The chords are inserted into the words in order to better see where the chord changes take place. The cords themselves are also available in a chart form, the left side being the top E string nearest your face. If you are a profession musician you may say that some of the chords are wrong, and that is quite often true as I have learned to make some chords easy to play for instance I never play a "F chord" I play a "Fmaj7" I also have an easy "G chord" which I use when playing songs that have "G" "F" "C" "Am" "Am7" "C/B". This allows me to play the chords without moving my index finger from the 1st Fret of the "B string"

  G chord   C chord   Fmaj7 chord   Am chord   Am7 chord   C/B chord
